I typically cover the canvas with with an overall tone of color. This time I opted to just start laying out the basic linework. I knew I wanted the horizon line to be about 1/3 up from the bottom.
I next layed in the basic shapes & colors with paint. The original photograph had a road along the right side from the bottom of the image up to the horizon line. I didn’t think an asphalt road was appropriate for the type of painting I had in mind so I changed it to a dirt road or path.
I continued developing the painting.
Added the white fence in front of the trees & further overall refinement of the painting.
I decided the dirt road was too wide & so I narrowed it. I also added a couple of small trees in front of the fence to try & give the painting more depth because it seemed a little flat from the bottom up to the trees.
